Application of Elicitors at Two Maturation Stages of Vitis vinifera L. cv Monastrell: Changes in Skin Cell Walls

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the application two pre-harvest elicitors—methyl-jasmonate (MeJ) and benzothiadiazole (BTH)—to Monastrell grapes, at maturation stages, affected composition structure skin cell walls (SCWs) differing extents. This conducted in 2016–2017 on Vitis vinifera L. cv Monastrell. A water suspension MeJ BTH, a mixture both, applied veraison mid-ripening. berry SCW analyzed. Environmental conditions caused substantial changes composition, especially high temperatures. Indeed, reduction approximately 50% biosynthesis hemicellulose, proteins total phenols observed, accompanied by slight increase cellulose lignin. However, treatments also some constituents: increases concentration phenols, lignin were when + BTH veraison. Likewise, uronic acids observed treatment These SCWs could affect their structural characteristics, therefore influence grape handling field winery. Further studies are needed determine extent which other characteristics.
